FAQ The Facilitator Podcast

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

Facilitating groups has stolen my heart since 2000. After studying business administration, I specialized in organizational change, group dynamics, and visual facilitation. My most recent book: The World of Visual Facilitation. I love making this weekly podcast because I get to talk to the best professionals in our field—and honestly, it’s so much fun. I live in the Netherlands with my wife. Our son and daughter have already flown the nest—time flies!"

Why did you get into podcasting?

I love giving others the stage and letting them share their wisdom—just like I did in my book with 52 co-authors from 12 countries. These conversations deepen my own understanding while also promoting the field of facilitation. My hope? That it helps create better meetings, more sustainable change, and happier people in organizations.

How did the idea for the show come about?

Back in 2024, I thought: Should I write a third book, or find a more modern, interactive way to share knowledge in the field of facilitation? Since I enjoy experimenting with video editing, starting this podcast felt like the natural next step. Around the same time, my new company, FOCUS Facilitators, was born.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

The feedback I’ve received since launching this podcast truly motivates me to keep producing weekly episodes. Just as I’d hoped, I’ve heard that listeners feel inspired and pick up practical ideas to tackle their own challenges—whether leading meetings or guiding groups to success. They also enjoy the relaxed, almost coffee-table-conversation vibe of these talks. One fan even told me: ‘I have a cup of coffee with you every week.’ How lovely is that?

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

Surprisingly, the biggest challenge isn’t finding guests to interview—it’s producing each episode as efficiently as possible. Even so, every episode still takes half a day: preparing, interviewing, editing, and promoting on social media.

How can your listeners support your show?

Oh yes, listeners can support the show by sharing it with anyone who might find it interesting. And of course, we always welcome feedback and new topic ideas!

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

I plan to keep making weekly episodes for as long as I enjoy it. I’m also open to exploring new topics, whether directly or indirectly related to facilitation. Plus, this podcast will collaborate with the International Association of Facilitators (IAF). As you can see, at this point (2026), most episodes are in Dutch and some in English. I am planning to make more English spoken episodes.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Enjoy listening! Let me know what this episode brings to you—I’d love to hear.
